Lonestars 91 Red Girls Win Under 19 US Youth Soccer National Championship

The Lonestars 91 Red under 19 girls entered the game Sunday against an Eclipse Select (IL) team that had been to two national finals before. Though the results of those games were mixed - a win at Under-15 and a loss at Under-17 - experience was on their side.  The Lonestars, by contrast, were in their first national title game and looking to win the first ever national championship for their club and the first girl’s title for a team from South Texas.

As if on cue, the Eclipse took the lead early on a goal by Karissa Miller at the 12 minute mark. Nineteen minutes later the Lonestars struck back with a goal by Jessica Fuston in the 31st minute to knot the game 1 - 1.  Both teams would have opportunities the rest of the way but would be unable to capitalize and the 1 - 1 score would stand through regulation and two overtimes and force the teams into a shoot-out.  Eclipse struck the post on their first shot and missed high on their second before finding the net on their final two shots. Unfortunately for the girls from Illinois that would not be enough as the Lonestars hit 4 straight shots to win the championship 4-2 to claim the club’s first national championship and first girls’ title for South Texas.
