Combes, TX. – South Texas Youth Soccer and the Rio Grande Valley Association held a first annual TOPSoccer festival and renewed hosting of the Kohl’s American Cup in Combes, TX., March 15-16.
Nine participants braved the 40+ mile per hour winds Saturday morning to participate in the first annual TOPSoccer festival led by Brad Matheny. It was a fun-filled activity in which all participants were assisted by TOPSoccer Buddies in all of the soccer activities. “It was a good turnout for our first time here in Combes and we’re very glad to have the opportunity to coordinate the event. We look forward to hosting another event next year”, said David Vinson, Freedom SC and event organizer.
Thirty two teams competed in the Kohl’s American Cup – South Texas over the weekend. Champions were crowned in multiple divisions. The Kohl’s American Cup returned to Combes after a brief hiatus. Although the winds created an additional challenge for the participating teams, players and parents alike didn’t seem the worse for wear and played and cheered anyhow. Joe Bazan, Rio Grande Valley Association President said, “The weather cooperated. The kids all stepped on the field and enjoyed a weekend of soccer. I’d like to thank Kohl’s for providing the interactive area and inflatables which the kids enjoyed all weekend. I’d also like to thank South Texas Youth Soccer for their presence and support for the weekend; everyone working together to put on an event.”
