The STYSA 2010 Winter Governing Board Meeting Sunday morning wrapped up two days of meetings, workshops, coaching clinics and demos, referee workshops, induction of two new Hall of Fame members at the Hall of Fame Luncheon, rule changes and officer elections.
Les Haulbrook and Ed Loucks were inducted into the STYSA Hall of Fame. Both have been instrumental in the development of youth soccer in South Texas at both a local and state level.
Les has been active in youth soccer in South Texas for more than 30 years serving on numerous committees, as President of Bay Area Youth Soccer, and as the Chairman of the Host Committee for the 2006 USYS Workshop hosted by South Texas in Houston and most recently STYSA Treasurer from 2005 to 2008. Les continues to be involved and is currently assisting with the campaign to bring the World Cup to Houston.
Ed has served as President of Timberline Youth Soccer and as STYSA President for 3 terms from 2002 to 2008. During his tenure he oversaw the construction of the State Office in Manor, elevated South Texas to a place of prominence within US Youth Soccer, successfully lobbied to host the 2004 USYS Southern Regionals in Austin, and brought the 2006 USYS Workshop in Houston. Ed is still involved at a national level participating on the USYS President’s Cup Committee and the USYS Appeals Committee.
The leadership and dedication of these two individual has touched thousands and helped provide players in South Texas an opportunity to compete on a local, regional, and national level. The unselfish sacrifice of time and energy of these two volunteers can never be repaid.
The 76 Member Association delegates present approved the 2010 - 2011 operating budget and then discussed and debated the merits of the proposed rule changes submitted by the STYSA Member Associations and clubs. When the discussions and debates ended the member delegates had voted to approve 16 of the 33 proposed changes.
Jesse Harrell was elected to a second term as STYSA President. Chris Delay was elected as the STYSA Eastern District Vice President; Pam Kasperitis was elected as the STYSA Western District Vice President; and David Buckler was elected STYSA Secretary. Chris Delay will assume the vacant Eastern District VP position immediately and Pam and David will assume their new roles on April 1st.
