Following six years in the office, STYSA President Ed Loucks Chaired the Elections of the 2008 Winter Meeting for the last time.
Incumbent District Vice President Chuck Jeffords saw a heated contest that included the last minute withdrawal of his opponent and a replacement candidate nominated from the floor of the Western District Meeting. Following his successful re-election to the position, Western District Delegates debated form and format of the upcoming Cup Competitions and named venues for each event.
Incumbent Eastern District Vice President Keith Walker answered a last minute challenge from the floor of that meeting when STYSA Insurance Commissioner Nathan Wesley tossed his hat into the ring. Voting took place after district representatives had approved all of the Cup Championship sites and discussed changes for next Fall.
Of the many offices open for election, only newly appointed Treasurer Tom Pate did not face opposition as the Governing Board asked him to complete the unexpired portion of the term he was asked to fill.
Secretary Polly Schueneman was a part of month long campaign for this important post, and won the election over a very qualified candidate in David Buckler from the Austin area.
Executive Vice President Jesse Harrell, who announced his candidacy for the Presidency after Ed Loucks announced in February 2007 he would not run, faced strong campaigns from long time STYSA volunteer Don Bohnet from San Antonio and Houston Youth Soccer President Chris DeLay. After two ballots, Mr. Harrell got the nod from the group.
The many decisions from the group in favor of incumbents showed the support and trust the majority of the delegates have for the experience of the STYSA Executive Committee.
