Four South Texas players traveled with the US Youth Soccer Region III Olympic Development Program 1991 Girls team to Barcelona, Spain, March 18 – 23, to compete in the Lloret Cup 2008.  Hanna Gilmore of Spring, Lindsay Gnatzig of Humble, Rachel Lenz of Round Rock, and Nora Skelton of Austin helped the team go undefeated in tournament play and take the Championship. The team also won three of their four friendly matches prior to the tournament.

 

Hanna Gilmore scored the team’s only goal in a 1-2 loss to Espanyol in the opening friendly match on Tuesday and 1 goal in a 2-1 win over FC Flora Tallin from Estonia to open tournament play on Friday while Nora Skelton scored 2 of the nine goals the team scored in a 9-0 win over Matrika FT of Spain on Saturday.  

 

The team took time throughout the week to go sightseeing around Barcelona and to visit the NOU CAMP, which is home to Barcelona FC. Wednesday they toured the stadium, NOU CAMP, and attended the Barcelona v. Valladolid game on Sunday.
